Local resources are underfunded and hard to find. You can help by nominating your favorite resource for people with disabilities with a Love Your Local Business Grant at http://lovealocalbusiness.intuit.com/

Mr. Anthony J. Hillelson,
The last time I log into the group I do not remember. Thank you for your warm welcome. I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 2000. I cannot put together a Disability Advocate and a Interfaith Ordained Minister. Most religions do not engage into advocacy. I had to wait until 2000 to be diagnose and as you know MS is accompanied by many symptoms. Disability Income is different topic. Yes, with disability, there's a lot of isolation but technology makes things better.

Here in Orlando, Florida the advocacy program never progressed at the Center for Independent Living so I decided to study and I feel that consumers are not treated with respect because the agencies only want to push for their agendas and not your needs. Yes, I have to agree with Laura I have not met a single person yet who will stick their neck out and help me. I feel that representatives to public offices do not care to make the appropriate effort for our community. They do not understand our predicaments. Bureaucracy does not care and you write to someone they come to the phone and ask you with an attitude what is what you want? Most of our community does not have money. Yes, advocacy seems to me to be waste of time and energy because for small territories as Puerto Rico the federal government does not do anything significant.

Yes, you have to be your own advocate in many cases and that right should not be taken away by anyone but with the situation of the economy in the United States I feel that this right will be taken away too and just the same as the Canadian and New Zealand Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Patients had to take their case to the United Nations Commission of Human Right from being discriminated, to get a procedure that will make their quality of life better as CCSVI (Chronic Cerebro-Spinal Venous Insufficiency). We need to stay inform as to the resources. Not until the announcement of the complaint the Parliament in Canada did not had a hearing on the matter. I just make the announcement just in case we need to use this resource.

You have to be your own advocate in many cases. In your situation I would have comented back to her and asked if she confused the dog in heat scent for perfume! Or maybe suggested that she wear some other scent than bacon! I had an episode recently while walking my dog (not a service dog, just a pet) where she did what dogs do in someone's yard. I always walk her around at home untill she gets that done before we go for a walk, but as they say stuff happens! They proceded to yell that I'd better pick that up. I said "I can't I'm in a wheelchair but I have bags right here (I always carry them in a container right on her leash) and if you'll pick it up I'll gladly take it away and dispose of it." They said "No! It's your dog, you pick it up!" I said "Ok. Carry me over there and I'll pick it up!" Nothing more was said.

yesterday i was at the bank depositing my pension and my dog was distracted by i dont know what. i cant see that far and some know it all woman starts screaming at me about my pulling back. if she were a decent person she would have asked if i had adequate help in training my dog and offered some help but instead she continued to yell. i cried all the way home. all we need is a little help. im not a professional dog trainer. i just want to feel safe when i leave my house

hey,
what is advocacy anyhow? i have not met a single person yet who will stick their neck out and help me. i missed a needed appointment yesterday because all i can afford is the bus. now i have to wait 3 months for another appointment. the meals on wheels i get is my biggest meal of the day. i save the bread to add peanut butter fro mornings when i get hungry
and all the while people are so worried about cuts for kids. i know girls who toss wic coupons because they dont need them. whats wrong with this picture? i have no extra money. i keep my dogs fed and my stuff on. its all i can do. advocacy is a bunch of bs

Hello Everyone!

I just recently joined and look forward to getting to know all of you. I have Lupus, Arthritis, PTSD, a history of depression and just recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.

I am an independent Disability Advocate and as an Interfaith Ordained Minister with over 30 years in the hotel industry as a General Manager/Management Trainerr, I also counsel people on the renewal of their lives.

I help others from the point of application through the success of successfully receiving their well deserved disability income. This need not take years to be successful!

Also, I do look forward to getting to know other advocates. sharing with one another, learning from one another and expanding our lives, as well.

As you well know, one of the major issues with those of us who are disabled is isolation. Friendships are essential to the renewal of our lives and the continued balance of life that we seek, passionately. I continue to seek good friendships. The fulfillment of our life's needs are essential to living our lives, optimally. I, certainly, look forward to making great friendships.

So, please feel free to comment and contact me.

Rudy has done such an excellent job in creating this amazing site with equally amazing people!

BE BLESSED! YOU ARE THE BLESSING! BE INSPIRED! YOU ARE THE INSPIRATION!
